After you have determined which of the lights is not working, you may mark it by placing a piece of tape on it. Before working on the lights, it is important to unplug the light strand from the electrical socket first to avoid electrocution. If the lights are battery operated, it is wise to remove the batteries first. You can use your fingernail to pry the marked light from the strand. Do this gently to avoid more damage.

Most of the time, there are pieces of replacement light bulbs included in the package of mini light kits. Slide in the replacement light bulb and push it gently to make sure that the bulb is firmly inside the light cup. Then, plug in the strand to see if the replacement light bulb is working.
