Nobody can deny that mixed martial arts is a highly male dominated form of martial arts. However, the interest in mixed martial arts has also appealed to the attention of women. Today, mixed martial arts are also taken up by women both as a self defense technique and a sport. Some learn from classes and trainers’ teachings while some learn by watching mma training videos.
Mixed martial arts today is regarded as a combat sport which includes styles and techniques from different disciplines of various martial arts. Mixed martial arts for women consist mostly of kicks, throws, elbows, strikes, grappling and submissions. Wrestling, kick boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Karate are only some of the techniques and styles involved in mixed martial arts for women. The techniques and styles teach women to be able to block strikes and respond to each of the opponent’s attacks. As a sport, mixed martial arts teach women of control and assertiveness. The training associated with learning the styles of mixed martial arts help women strengthen themselves physically and benefit them by helping them lose unwanted fat deposits in their body and get into a fitter, more flattering shape.
As a self defense system, the benefits of mixed martial arts to women need not to be explained as it is understandable how martial arts movements can allow women to defend their selves even at a disadvantaged size and strength against a potential attacker.
