School Trips, when planned well, are great opportunities for students to learn new things. Carrying out a school trip can be a very stressful adventure if you don’t plan correctly and anticipate likely events ahead of time. There are some things to remember when planning a class or school trip.
The first thing to remember is to take along a medical professional for the trip. If your budget allows it, ask the school nurse or a student’s parent who is a nurse or physician to go along on the trip with you so that someone can help you if a student gets sick during the trip. The next thing to remember is to have an emergency plan in place for the students participating in the trip. Before the trip, give your students instructions on what to do in case they get separated from the group. Give each of them a wallet sized card containing telephone numbers or cell
phone numbers of the individuals they should contact in case they get separated from the rest of the class.
Your school trip chaperones should also be provided with a guide book stating your expectations, their responsibilities and a more in-depth itinerary than the one you will give your students. It is also advisable not to bring more chaperones on the trip than you need.
